Is your weight a health risk?
If a body mass index (BMI) test result shows that you are overweight with a BMI number exceeding 25, you may need to do something about it. This test will show you how your weight is affecting your health. If you have a BMI-number below 25, then you are not overweight and there is no reason for you to take the test.
BMI = weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared = kg/m2 .
WARNING: This test is intended as a guide only and cannot replace a visit to your doctor to discuss weight problems

You have scored points in the test.
You are in the high-risk group for developing weight-related diseases
such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases or diabetes.
You need to lose weight and keep your weight down.
WARNING: Consult your doctor before starting to lose weight.
If you smoke it would be advisable to quit. If you are not physically active, it would be a good
idea to start exercising.
If your BMI exceeds 25, and you answered yes to the question concerning
high blood pressure, diabetes or other weight-related
diseases, then you are automatically in the high-risk group, and should do
something about your weight.
You
should lose weight to reduce your risk of developing weight-related disease. This is particularly important if your
BMI-number is over 30, or if your waistline exceeds the above-mentioned value. This
is also the case if you have a family history of weight-related diseases, or if you are a
smoker.
Losing weight is not likely to affect your risk of developing a
weight-related disease. If your BMI-value is between 25 and 30, and you scored 2 points or
less, then you should focus on maintaining your current weight,
instead of losing weight.
Do what you can to improve your lifestyle: no smoking, more exercise, and less fatty foods.
